Vanuatu Aquatic Federation will be sending two swimmers to the World Aquatics Championship in Budapest Hungary. The World Aquatics Championship will be held from 10 to 15 December where Vanuatu swimmers will be competing amongst some of the best in the world.
Chloe Ameara and Leo Lebot will be representing Vanuatu at this prestigious event. They will be escorted by team manager Kali Ameara and coach Manuel Hotel. The team is set to leave the country on the 6 of December for Budapest.
Athletes will be participating in different events, 15-year-old Chloe will be competing in the 100-meter Backstroke and 100-meter Individual Medley. While 17-year-old Leo will be competing in the events of 50-meter Butterfly and 50-meter Freestyle.
Team Manager Kali Ameara shares his pride about the two swimmers “As Team Manager, I am immensely proud of our two talented swimmers representing Vanuatu at the World Aquatics Championship. Despite the demands of balancing schoolwork and intensive training at their local swim club, these young athletes have shown exceptional resilience and determination. Leo, completing his final year at École Colardeau, while Chloe, a Year 10 student at Port Vila International School, both have excelled academically and athletically. Both swimmers will not only focus on improving their stroke times, personal bests and national records but also use this opportunity to develop their confidence in their ability to perform under pressure. I would like to take the opportunity to thank the team at Vanuatu Aquatic Federation, VASANOC and Paradise Arts and Swim. Their continued contribution to support the swim team to participate on the world stage fosters a deep sense of national pride, and continues to pave the way for Vanuatu’s competitive swimming, inspiring greater investment in sports infrastructure and athlete development. “
VAF President Nancy Miyake added ‘We are incredibly thankful to be invited to send two swimmers to the Short Course World Championships and thank World Aquatics and VASANOC for ensuring that these opportunities are made available to swimmers in Vanuatu. Their continued support through the World Aquatics Support Programme, which allows us to prepare and send athletes to these events, has been a life line for small volunteer organisations. This grant also allows us to develop a wider pool of ni-Vanuatu coaches, which helps us make swimming more accessible outside of Port Vila by increasing access to regular swimming programs. We wish Leo and Chloe good luck at their debut appearance at the World Championships, and thank the team of volunteers and staff who have supported preparations for their trip to Budapest.’
The Federation wishes to acknowledge its major donors World Aquatics, VASANOC, Nambawan Cafe, Doyle family along with coaches, administrators, swimmers, volunteers that have supported the federation, Chloe and Leo in this journey.
